Raise a glass to one of St. Paul’s most beloved neighborhood institutions. O’Gara’s Bar & Grill opened at Selby and Snelling in 1941 and remained a family-run gathering place for 77 years, welcoming generations of locals for cold drinks, live music and legendary St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
From the Shamrock Room and The Shanty to its deep family roots and connection to Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, O’Gara’s was more than an Irish pub—it was part of the fabric of the neighborhood. The original tavern closed in 2018, but the memories of packed music nights, familiar faces and celebrations on the corner live on.
